Maple Almond Granola

My sisters and I got this recipe from a good family friend of ours, which she got from her trainer.  This granola is delicious!  I have tried many different kinds of granola over the years and this one might just take the cake.  It is very easy to throw together and has a ton of flavor.

I put it on my Greek yogurt this morning for breakfast; you could also have it as a cereal with milk...or just plain!  It's reaallly good.

It might seem like there is a lot of cinnamon in the recipe; that's because there is!  But it is not overwhelming at all and it complements the maple syrup perfectly.  I chose to use cran-raisins but you could also go the sunflower seed route to add some salty flavor to the granola.

4 1/2 cups old fashioned oats
3/4 cup sunflower seeds or cran-raisins
1 1/2 cups slivered or sliced almonds
1 cup raisins
2 tablespoons cinnamon
1 1/4 cups pure maple syrup, Grade A - dark amber
1/3 cup canola oil

Directions
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Place oats, sunflower seeds or cran-raisins, almonds, raisins, and cinnamon in a large bowl; stir to combine.  Add maple syrup and oil and stir until all dry ingredients are moistened.

Spread on a large baking sheet and bake in the center of the oven for 20 to 25 minutes.  Take out and stir.

Bake for another 15 to 20 minutes.

Once baked, let cool, store in an airtight container.

  1. I made a batch last weekend and am already half way through it! Have it every morning with my Greek yogurt :-) And instead of cran-raisins, I used dried cherries...yum. Next time I may do sunflower seeds. GREAT GRANOLA! Thanks Lori :-)

  2. Why so much cinnamon? Because it regulates blood sugar levels and lowers LDL cholesterol...and provides fiber - a healthy granola to boot!
