M&M Cookies

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Congratulations Mary and Rolf on the little one!  I originally made these cookies for Mary's baby shower, before she knew whether or not it was going to be a boy or a girl (reason for the pink), but Mark Edward decided to come a little early.

As for the cookies, they are a great classic.  I don't think you can ever go wrong with M&M cookies.  I used half chocolate chips and half M&M's in the recipe rather than only M&M's, due to what I had available in my pantry, and they were still delicious!  These are bound to be a crowd pleaser.

Yields 4 dozen (48 cookies)

Ingredients
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups candy-coated milk chocolate pieces

Directions
In a large bowl, mix sugar, eggs, shortening, and vanilla thoroughly.  Add flour, salt, and baking soda to creamed mixture.  Blend well.  Add 1 cup of M&M candies.

Drop dough by tablespoon onto cookie sheet.  Slightly push a few candies on top of each dough ball with remaining candies.

Bake at 350 degrees for 9 to 11 minutes, to your liking.
